In this first novel of the series we started to know the characters and fisrt of all we analyze Richard Cypher (after Rahl) and the way he thinks. Even if he was just nominated Seeker and he didn't know anything about the Middlands and the D'Hara he immediately found a way to cross the boundary only thinking about the solution and not at the problem. After in the novel there are many similar occasions which he solved thinking hard for example he found a way to "kill" Denna (the Mord-Sith who captured him but it was a difficult choice 'cause at the end he understood her like anybody) and then a qay to kill his "bastard" father Darken Rahl. IMO I like a lot his mind and I envy him a little. Please let me know what do you think about his mind. Is he a talent or anyone could reach him?????

Sure Richard's mind is a very particoular one, for his way to solve the problems ( think to the solution, not to the problem!!!)and also 'cause his ideals....IMHO to answer your question, I think that
anyone could be like him, with only own mind!
(sorry, but I am not very used to speak English!)

we all have a mind... if we chose to use it we might all be surprised at what we can accomplish... the problem in the world is that unlike richard many chose not to use their minds... richard uses his mind to solve all the problems he faces... he is a good example for people to follow...

what happens when people chose not to use their heads? when they let others do the thinking for them?

I think they become slave of who rule them

a dictator or emperor rules -- imposes laws -- so then people under an emperor or dictator must not have minds of their own... they must follow what they are told...

it's right singularity but we don't have to go so far to see an example nearer our experiences. Have you heard about "bullismo" (excuse my italian word but I don't know a traslation in English)?

i don't really know what you mean by bullismo since i've never heard the word before. can you try to explain the word, use some italian if you have to...

OK I try to explain the word better..... let me think.....
"bullismo" is a word that is use in Italy to describe the phenomen of some bad people who prevail on the other by violence.... like at school the older who by violence prevail on the younger (not jokes but real violence) it's clearer now?

are you talking about bullies?

bully = overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people

that's the definition from the dictionary...

What you said in this post is right but I said that it isn't necessary to look too far from our experiences 'cause there are unfortunately some exemples near us like bullies that make weak people do what they want

very true, but while a bully mistreats a few, a dictatory or emperor mistreats an entire nation...

yes it's true but it's the same phenomen in my opinion 'cause a dictator is only a big bully, is it wrong?

most bullies might inflict physical and emotional pain, but they usually don't kill... emperors and dictators kill too many people... those that oppose them, those that don't agree complitely with their politics, etc.

so, although they both mistreat people a dictator tortures, kills... they can definitey destroy lives...
